Today's prompt: Lonely

GO

With the big move looming ever closer, this word certainly is weighing on my mind. I'm not an overly social person. I don't enjoy big crowds and being around people I don't know for long periods of time is exhausting.

However, I am much luckier than most. I will have a built-in network. No, the relationships won't be handed to me on a platter, but the people are right there. As a future pastor's wife, I will probably always be surrounded by quality potential friends. What a blessing.

It's just a matter of me stepping out of my comfort zone - taking that first step to invite myself into their world.

When I say I'm a little awkward, I really do mean it. I don't know what to say. I'm not good at talking to adults. So...if you have some tips on how to make friends, I sure would appreciate your input!

  1. We just moved a few months ago and making new friends is a lot of work! But God has brought some amazing people into our lives in a very short period of time. Just wait for God's timing and He will supply you with the friends. He's already been where you are going!

    Good luck!

  2. About three years ago, my husband and I moved to a new city. (New state/country for that matter...we were returning from being overseas for several years.) We didn't know anyone. We'd just become parents for the first time a month before. And I had to consciously think about what side of the road to drive on. :) (I was most likely a mess.)

I gave it to Him because I had to...I asked God to show me community and send the people I needed. And He did...in His time, and He has truly given me a beautiful community, one that is much better than anything I could have chosen for myself.

I hope that encourages you...starting over in a new place is hard, but the blessings will be there if you're open to them. I said a prayer for you, sweet sister...I'm so glad you shared your heart today. (((hugs)))

  3. Just ask questions. You don't have to be knowledgeable or funny or anything you aren't comfortable being. But when you ask someone a question, about themselves, you learn and they relax and the world starts spinning again and before you know it you are friends. You can do it!!! ROCK on!

  4. Oh man, I am CRAZY awkward. When I told my hubby I wanted to go to Allume, his first words were, "But these people online like you, why would you want to change that?!?" (Yes, he's snarky and sarcastic and likes to poke fun at me, because I have a horrible habit of sticking my foot in my mouth and offending people in person!... it's a gift, really ;)).

When we moved to Alabama for flight school, I knew no one. And for the first 7 weeks I was on my own with a toddler while pregnant. (my hubby had to live in the barracks for training) God provided us with an amazing set of friends. As the other ladies here said, just give it to God. Open your heart, trust in Him, and listen when He tells you to jump, leap, follow.

He will bring the people to you, but be sure you reach out and accept them :) Praying for a smooth transition for you, and that God would bring you the community and fellowship you need :)

  5. You were up early. Read Dale Carnegie's book on "How to Make Friends and Influence People", better still buy the book and keep it on your bedside table. Refer to it often. His book is invaluable for everyone in this life, you'll see.
You will see how easy it is to make friends. I know you will be great.

  6. God is so faithful! It's hard to do, but start out by not worrying about the friends you will make. Begin by thanking God for setting the stage for you and be open to His promptings when you move. He will lead you right to the people He has for you. :)

  7. Be yourself, and your personality will shine through. I just moved to my town four months ago and even in church I am having a hard time making friends. It is a slow process for me because I am very selective of my friends, but it is coming along. You will be fine!

P.S. I am crazy awkward too! Its good to know I am not the only one! :)
